Canvass for a Cause is a 501(c)4 non-profit that builds support for the radical movement at the local, grassroots level. Our staff of trained activists are out on the streets every day, mobilizing the San Diego community and changing hearts and minds. We have worked on projects ranging from banning “pray the gay away” therapy to protesting police brutality.
CHANGING HEARTS AND MINDS
Our activists are trained to turn nonsupporters or undecided voters into supportive voters with an amazing 22% persuasion rate. This means that, after speaking with us, just about 1 in every 4 people will actually change their vote and pledge their support in upcoming elections.
As a radical queer organization, Canvass for a Cause works to stop all oppressions. We work through a lens of intersectionality, meaning that we cannot separate the struggle for queer rights from the struggle for indigenous rights, racial justice, or rights for the working class. Viewing these issues as separate would ignore a huge part of the queer community, and would only address a symptom of the problem, not the root of the problem (inequity of power).
We identify as a safe space, and one that is always growing. We have had many changes since our organization began in 2009, and we are proud to say we are more worker-run every day.
Canvass for a Cause is 100% small-donor funded. By supporting our activists out in the field, you are not only investing in getting more of us out to educate the public, but you are allowing us to coordinate more field projects that give back to our community and other progressive causes. Our current efforts are focused on creating a safe environment for LGBTQIA youth, specifically by doing workshops and trainings at local schools and homeless shelters.
We are happy to support other radical movements and organizations, and host teach-ins, forums, screenings, organizing meetings and other events at our office. If you are interested in hosting something at our office, please e-mail email@example.com with more information.
With your help, we can cure apathy and promote equality for all!
