WHAT IS CFAC?

Canvass for a Cause, you are on our website!

WHO ARE YOU?

CFAC has been called the cure for apathy because we engage hundreds of San Diegans every day in face-to-face conversations about LGBTQIA rights! There are so many people who believe in equality but do not know how they can help, CFAC provides that answer and works to empower our workers, our volunteers, and the public through these conversations. We are an eclectic group. Many of our staff and volunteers are young, idealistic, grassroots types who care more about making a difference in society than maintaining the sexist, racist, homophobic, apathetic status quo, even if that means making less money.

I THOUGHT CFAC WAS ONLY ABOUT MARRIAGE EQUALITY?

No. Our focus is LGBT rights and equality, which touch every aspect of life. We have worked on a multitude of issues in addition to fighting for marriage equality, including raising money for homeless shelters, earthquake victims, and working to provide safe access to medical cannabis for HIV/AIDS patients.

WHERE ARE YOU?

We are based in San Diego, but we have sent staff to marriage equality fights in the states of Maine, New York, and Washington. Because we are activists 365 days out of the year (not just during campaign season) we are able to send trained, knowledgeable activists to the cities and states when and where they are the most needed.

WHERE DOES ALL THE MONEY YOU COLLECT GO?

To our lavish lifestyles! No, when compared with many other jobs, everyone here is grossly underpaid and our activists put in far more hours. The money collected pays for our office overhead and the rest goes to keeping our activists out on the street, talking about the issues we endorse, to make a difference when and where we can. To see exactly where the money goes, please see our IRS 990.

ARE YOU HIRING?

We often are. And we are always looking for volunteers to get involved. Many of our best staff members come from the ranks of our volunteers. Please visit our “Get Involved” page.

WHO HAVE YOU HELPED?

Aside from working on marriage equality, we have worked on numerous projects. For instance, we raised money for the Red Cross to help Haiti. After a hate crime in San Diego, we started up a victim’s compensation fund that was quickly able to raise $1400 to cover some of the victim’s medical expenses. We have a team in the AIDS Walk that raises thousands of dollars each year. In short, we will continue to help a diverse range of people. There is always work to be done.

DO YOU SUPPORT INDIVIDUAL CANDIDATES?

No. Sometimes there is overlap between a cause and a candidate, but we are about the issues, not individuals.
