field coordinator
Alfie is a Field Coordinator at Canvass for a Cause. He moved to San Diego in February 2011 and found the job on Craig's List. He is adamant about supporting the issue of gay marriage, and working at CFAC offers him a chance to argue the issue all the time.
CFAC is bringing back grassroots, face-to-face activism as a means of outreach. From a Field level, the amount that we can do by going out and canvassing and getting donations from the people and not being corporately funded is so awesome. "I have always believed in practicing our freedom to let our government know what our grievances are, and have been a protester on different issues," he says. He worked at a political telephone survey firm, which led him to doing phonebanks at CFAC.
In the next five to ten years, he would like to see someone in power who listens to what the people say. He believes gay marriage should be legal, and cannabis should be legalized on a whole so patients' needs are being met. He would also like to see what our Occupy movement has done with bringing the government to be here for us.
Something that might surprise people is that he used to be in choir. He could sing the Phantom of the Opera really well, and he knows all the words to Taylor Swift songs.
