Assistant Canvass Director
Ben is an Assistant Canvass Director at Canvass for a Cause. He wanted to get into politics after he graduated and is working towards eventually going to law school or a liberal arts grad school. Working in nonprofit work on issues that he cares about is the best way to advance the overall education and skills he is going to need for the kind of things he wants to be. CFAC seemed like the place to grow his skills.
He had never worked in an office before this. He went to school right after high school and worked at a car wash and a summer camp to make ends meet. Working with kids is an excellent way to grow your patience and harness your people skills. He has a degree in American Studies and cares a lot about politics.
He would like to see gay marriage legalized and see overall gender expectations, stereotypes, and constructions disappear. “There's a lot of oppression that surrounds gender and sex, and gay marriage and legitimizing gay and transgender people institutionally is one of the main steps away from those oppressive system,” he says. He wants to see people taxed less, corporations taxed more, and people given more concessions from their jobs. He would like to see CFAC grow and become the vanguard of the progressive movement in Southern California.
