canvass director
Julie graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans during spring 2011, and returned home to San Diego with degrees in Communication and Political Science, but no plan as to what to do with them. While job hunting, she came across Canvass for a Cause and knew that this was the place for her.
CFAC has created activist movement prepared to fight for multiple progressive causes, including gay rights, the civil rights issue of our time. As a powerhouse of grassroots activism, CFAC is making waves across the country by not only changing the way people vote on gay rights and other progressive issues, but also by catalyzing an attitudinal shift regarding these same ideas. Through political activism, public education, and grassroots communication (three tools that particularly resonate with her personal interests and skills), CFAC is helping our nation evolve.
Her experiences here have only reinforced Julie's initial impressions of the organization. For the first time in her life, she comes home from work knowing that she actually made an impact. “I never feel useless, unnecessary or unfulfilled,” she says. “Each day, out there in the field, I am making a real difference in the way people vote, in the way they think about progressive issues, and in the values that they impart to others. Each person at CFAC matters not only to the organization, but also to the national progressive movement as a whole. My time here has reinforced my faith in humanity—that we can change and evolve and progress—and has given me a sense of purpose.”
Julie really likes trampolines, eats chips for breakfast, and essentially is Liz Lemon.
