Rachel Scoma is the Co-Executive Director at Canvass for a Cause. She is an attorney and lent her legal expertise during the Target case, which solidified her position at CFAC.

CFAC is very important to Rachel because the work we do is grassroots organizing at its finest: recruiting and training activists. She started out working as a volunteer during the Prop 19 Campaign as the Regional Field Director, and CFAC was the only organization she found that could teach her the skills necessary, which was field work. She came into the organization with no background in activism; everything that she has learned has been on-the-ground training here.

“It is important that we create a new local community that responds to issues like gay marriage, cannabis reform, and bank finance reform. Within the next five to ten years, I would like to see gay marriage legal in California and the end of cannabis prohibition,” says Rachel.

Something that would surprise people about her is that she believes that our rights fundamentally come from ourselves, from being human beings, and not from the Constitution.
