Marriage equality campaign
Uniquely combining fundraising with Activism
Canvass for a Cause activists are not just your ordinary canvassers. We not only spend time talking with supporters but we also engage in polite, persuasive conversations with nonsupportive voters to find out why they voted against marriage equality.
We are an organization of trained activists that also get the supportive community involved by either donating their time or their resources. Our activists are trained to turn nonsupporters or undecided voters into supportive voters with an amazing 22% persuasion rate. This means that, after speaking with us, just about 1 in every 4 will actually change their vote and pledge their support for marriage equaity in upcoming elections.
By supporting our activists out in the field, you are investing in not only getting more of us out in areas to change hearts and minds, but more field projects that give back to other progessive causes. We are the cure for apathy! What we have found is that California supporters of gay marriage do not always know how they can get involved or what they can actually do to help out. Canvass for a Cause makes those opportunities accessible.
Safe kids campaign
helping protect students from bullying

The Safe Kids Project is our effort to protect youth from violence, bullying, and harassment in schools.
We're calling our voter-base, educating community members on the importance of The Safe Kids Project. We're also participating in Interfaith Forums across San Diego and Los Angeles County, educating community members of faith on the issues LGBT bullying has on local communities. We're also participating in a Gay-Straight Alliance Project (GSA) in high schools and colleges, where students can work with us to create a more tolerant and accepting society. Everyday at CFAC, we recruit volunteers for our efforts.

New York Marriage Equality Campaign
Calling To demand change
When New York needed help during the final few weeks before a vote of their legislature to legalize gay marriage, Canvass for a Cause answered the call.
Here in California, we organized a massive phone banking effort where staff and volunteers made phone calls to New York voters who support marriage equality and connected them directly to their local Republican senators, the very senators that were needed to tip the vote in our favor. Meanwhile, our ground team, partnered with the Human Rights Campaign and Marriage Equality New York, went to New York to recruit volunteers and execute stop and dial to create pressure on those Republican senators.

Cfac's beginnings
Canvass for a Cause 's organizational history begins with our work in Maine. Even before we were a registered organization, Canvass for a Cause founders fundraised enough money to send a team of 6 volunteers to participate in the 'volunteer vacation' program, where activists country-wide flew to Maine to donate a week on the campaign to fight Question 1.
Without an organization to help us fundraise, we just did it ourselves. We hit the streets with clipboards and asked our community to donate money to us to help us fly to Maine and help with this fight. We decided that there should be an organization that allows people to use grassroots techniques to fight on progressive causes, and so literally on the plane on the way back from Maine from 30,000 feet in the sky we registered the legal entity of Canvass for a Cause.
