In the face of the current widespread attacks on the LGBT protion of the Fair Education Act, CFAC has dedicated our whole activist staff to going into the public and educating voters on the truth about the bill, changing non-supportive voter's minds at a rate of 22-36%. The Safe Kids Project is our effort to protect youth from violence, bullying, and harassment in schools.

LGBT students, and even assumed to be gay students, are 63% more likely to be bullied than any other group of students in the country. Statistics show that 80% of kids bullied under the label "gay" are actually heterosexual. Meanwhile, every 30 minutes, a student commits suicide as a direct result of being bullied. The FAIR Education act is an inclusive LGBT history curriculum in age appropriate classes. All this means is that while students learn about civil rights leader like MLK Jr, they'll simultaneously learn about civil rights leaders like Harvey Milk. LGBT inclusive history curriculum's bring down bullying rates 13% in schools. We're being opposed by groups like The Traditional Values Coalition, who are putting massive efforts into repealing the bill. So, we're working to support The FAIR Education Act and protect the students.

Canvass for a Cause (CFAC) is holding phone banks every other Thursday at 6pm, starting September 29. We're calling our voter-base, educating community members on the importance of The Safe Kids Project. We're also participating in Interfaith Forums across San Diego and Los Angeles County, educating community members of faith on the issues LGBT bullying has on local communities. We're also participating in a Gay-Straight Alliance Project (GSA) in high schools and colleges, where students can work with us to create a more tolerant and accepting society.

By having polite, educational conversations with non-supportive voters, we are able to build voter supporte more effectively. This is the most strategic way we can fight to prevent the repeal of SB 48.
